Sophia Kennedy
Sophia Kennedy loves contrasts. She takes the familiar, turns it upside down, takes it apart and reassembles it. Pop meets surrealism, dancefloor darkness meets bittersweet melodies, tenderness meets destruction. Since her debut in 2017, the Baltimore-born Berliner-by-choice has been moving between shimmering art pop, electronic experiments and cinematic narrative art.
With her new album Squeeze Me, she goes one step further: a hypnotic work full of quirky harmonies, driving beats and profound questions. ‘Are you hugging me or are you squeezing me?’ - this ambivalent tone runs through the songs as Kennedy dances playfully between reality and abstraction.
In the last song, Rodeo, the question ‘Where are we heading to?’ remains. - There are no answers. But we do know that we'll be in Neustrelitz at least briefly at the end of May - see you soon!
