Mel D
I got to know Mel D as part of the electro duo Mischgewebe in Zurich in 2023. Last year we met again, this time with her solo project: musically, everything is quite different, but what remains is the unifying feeling when you lose yourself in the audience, your gaze never loses sight of the stage and you briefly immerse yourself in the crowd. During the concert, there is a moment when the audience joins in and a line echoes through the room again and again:
Please bring the witches back,
Please bring the witches back,
Please bring the witches back,
Please bring the witches back
All of this always feels quite magical. The song Bring The Witches Back is about a state of world-weariness and magic in response.
Mel D makes music that connects. With her debut EP Not Crazy, the Zurich singer-songwriter brings indie pop songs to the stage that are full of poetry, adventurousness and emotion. Mel's journey to this point has been adventurous and at the same time seemingly full of confidence. Three incidents later, it reads something like this:
A cancelled concert and shortly afterwards an aborted holiday, a borrowed guitar, two weeks' time - and suddenly Mel D was a solo artist. Soon afterwards, she met Dino Brandão (oh yes, remember Dino's appearance with us in 2021 - we've come full circle), with whom she recorded her first songs, and later Renaud Letang, who produced the EP in Paris and otherwise worked with her.
There's not much more to say, except: I'm very happy, it's going to be good!
