Snuggle
“Snuggle” roughly translates as: to curl up, to nestle close, to settle into a warm, safe position. That exact feeling is also conveyed by the sound of the Danish duo snuggle, consisting of Andrea Thuesen and Vilhelm Strange: their debut album Goodbyehaus floats between shoegaze and dream pop—soft, dreamy, and almost lulling. Lyrically, snuggle’s songs are profound and serious, standing in clear contrast to their enchanting melodies.
“Blue skies only last so long / I was never good at change / Yeah, I’m drowning,” they sing in “Water in a Pond.” In “Sticks,” “smiling through the pain” becomes a fragile act of self-assertion, and “Always together, we said it’s forever / Nothing ever is” from “Woman Lake” lets the idea of forever quietly fall apart. snuggle sing about pain, loss, and emotional crises—vulnerable, honest, and at the same time full of tender hope.
Anyone looking to let go and perhaps move a little closer together at the end of May at the Immergut Festival will be in exactly the right place with snuggle.
