Dressed Like Boys
Dressed Like Boys is the solo project of Belgian musician Jelle Denturck. His songs carry a timeless warmth that resonates with big emotion: catchy piano melodies that linger and evoke the buoyant sounds of the 1970s, somewhere between David Bowie, Elton John & co. Delicate indie-pop elements, rich harmonies, and a sense of melancholy that never feels heavy complete the picture. Songs like “Pride” or “Gregor Samsa” also recall the gentle, poetic sound of Sufjan Stevens.
Moving between nostalgia and lightness, Denturck’s songs tell contemporary stories. Tracks such as “Stonewall Riots Forever” or “Jaouad” explore queer identity, visibility, and political struggles. On his debut album “Dressed Like Boys,”Denturck takes us on a deeply personal journey, touching on the big themes, pain, loss, love, and friendship and on all the quiet in-between moments in which many listeners can see themselves.
Musically, Dressed Like Boys allows you to briefly drift into the past while still feeling unmistakably of the present: vulnerable, courageous, and open. And we’re fairly certain that when Jelle Denturck raises his warm voice at Immergut in May, it will be one of those moments when everyone pauses together, just for a second.
